The 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area women's half marathon, the largest event of its kind in China, is set to take place in Zengcheng, Guangzhou, on Jan. 1, 2025, marking the first significant marathon of the new year. The race, certified by the Chinese Athletics Association, will feature two categories: the women's half marathon (21.0975 km) with 15,000 participants and a 5 km health run with 5,000 runners, bringing the total number of participants to 20,000.
Registration for the event officially opened at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12, and entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until all slots are filled. To enhance the experience for runners, the organizing committee is offering a unique "self-selection" service, allowing participants to choose their race number from available options, such as a birthday, lucky number, or commemorative date, with each number being unique.
This year's event offers a total prize pool of RMB150,000. The top 100 finishers in the "individual group" will receive awards, as will the top 30 teams in the "best friends group" and the top 50 teams in the "running club group."
To better accommodate participants, the organizing committee is introducing a refund service for this year's race. Runners who successfully register but are unable to attend can apply for a refund through the original registration platform by Dec. 15, 2024. For those who do not request a refund and are unable to participate on race day, the committee will mail the race kit to their home after the event.
