Donald Trump taps Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy to lead Department of Government Efficiency
Donald Trump said that he has tapped Elon Musk, working along with Vivek Ramaswamy, to lead what he calls the Department of Government Efficiency—or DOGE, a nod to cryptocurrency.
Musk and Ramaswamy will be tasked with setting the stage for a dismantling of the government bureaucracy, slashing regulations and cutting wasteful expenditures, the president-elect said.
Musk was Trump's biggest "moneymaker" during his campaign, reportedly contributing more than $100 million to Trump's campaign. Ramaswamy, a 39-year-old biotech company founder worth more than US$950 million, declared his candidacy for the Republican primary for presidential candidate in February 2023, before dropping out of the Republican primary in January 2024 in favor of Trump.
