US presidential election | Exit poll: Support for Trump's white voters falls 8%, black voters rise to 14%
According to a Nov. 5 exit poll, white votes surged this election, while conversely turnout among black, minority voters was lower than in 2020. Another early exit poll showed that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's support among white voters has declined. NBC reports that Trump's support among white voters has fallen from 57 percent in 2020 to 49 percent this year.
According to preliminary results of a national exit poll conducted by Edison Research and released by Reuters, 71 percent of the nation's voters are white, compared to 67 percent in Edison Research's 2020 exit poll. As for black voters, only 11 percent are white this term, compared to 13 percent in 2020.
By gender, 34% of the national electorate is white male, about the same as the 35% in the last term; white females increased to 37% this year, up from 32% in 2020. Among black voters, the percentage of black males is unchanged, at 4 percent of the national electorate this year and in 2020.
Trump's support among black and Latino voters has increased. Among black voters, Trump's support rose from 10 percent to 14 percent compared to the same period in 2020.
