HK records lowest temperature this autumn as typhoon Trami nears
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) reported that a strong northeast monsoon is currently affecting the coastal areas of southern China, leading to slightly cooler weather in Hong Kong this morning with a recorded low of 22 degrees Celsius—the lowest since the start of autumn. Temperatures in the New Territories were generally one to two degrees lower.
The weather in Hong Kong today (Oct. 24) is expected to be generally clear. The morning will be slightly cool, and the day will be very dry with a high of about 29 degrees Celsius.
According to current forecasts, Trami is expected to enter within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong by tonight or early Friday morning, prompting the HKO to issue a Standby Signal No. 1.
The HKO anticipates that Trami will continue moving westward and gradually strengthen, heading towards Hainan Island. At the same time, a northeast monsoon is expected to reach southern China near the weekend.
Under the combined influence of Trami and the northeast monsoon, there will be strong winds along the southern China coast over the weekend, turning cloudier with occasional showers. Depending on Trami's path and local wind changes, the HKO will assess whether there is a need to issue a Strong Wind Signal No. 3. Trami's path and strength are subject to change, and it may linger near Hainan Island early next week.
