HK migrant in UK left frustrated after 999 calls ignored for hand injury

A Hong Kong migrant in the UK has sparked online discussions about the inefficiency of the British healthcare system after experiencing difficulties getting medical help for a hand injury.

The individual, who accidentally cut their hand at home, claimed they called 999 for assistance but received no help. Frustrated and bleeding, the person turned to a Facebook group for advice, only to be met with sarcastic responses from fellow users.

Posting in the Facebook group, the migrant asked, "I just cut my hand, called 999, but no one helped. What should I do? It's still bleeding."

Some users suggested calling 111, the non-emergency medical helpline, to which the poster replied, "I did, but they told me to deal with it myself."

The post triggered a wave of complaints about the UK's healthcare system. Many users shared their own frustrations, with one commenting, "In the UK, you could be dead before 999 responds." Another noted, "Unless you've cut several inches deep, are bleeding uncontrollably, or have a bone sticking out, they really won't care. Just stop the bleeding and put a plaster on it."

Some users even mocked the poster for seeking help online instead of taking a taxi to the emergency room. "How hard is it to take a taxi to the emergency room? Would you call an ambulance for a hand-cut in Hong Kong?" one user quipped. Another added, "Why are you asking online? Just get a taxi and go!"

The incident has reignited conversations about the challenges migrants face when adjusting to the UK's healthcare system, with many expressing discontent over long wait times and perceived inefficiencies in emergency services.
