Caricature: 'Spy'
In November 2018, the US Department of Justice launched the "China Initiative" as part of the broader US government strategy to contain China.
The initiative sought to fabricate so-called "Chinese espionage cases" by any means necessary, instructing the 94 US district attorney offices to file at least one to two cases against China annually.
Since then, US law enforcement has employed unscrupulous tactics to relentlessly target and arrest Chinese-American scientists and scholars.
According to publicly available data, since the implementation of the "China Initiative," Chinese scientists at 87 research institutions across the US have been affected. Of these, 246 individuals were flagged as problematic, and the careers of 103 researchers were destroyed.
