Caricature: Totally unreasonable
Starting from Oct. 1, Canada has imposed a 100% surtax on electric vehicles imported from China. On the same day, the Canadian government also announced a 25% additional tariff on steel and aluminum products imported from China, set to take effect on Oct. 22.
A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce said that China has filed a lawsuit at the World Trade Organization against Canada's unilateralism and trade protectionism. In response, China has also initiated an anti-discrimination probe into Canada's restrictive measures targeting certain imports from China.
