HK unemployment rate holds steady at 3%

Hong Kong's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from July to September this year stood at 3.0%. (Chinanews)

The Census & Statistics Department announced today (Oct. 18) that Hong Kong's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from July to September this year stood at 3.0%, unchanged from the previous period of June to August.

The underemployment rate also remained stable at 1.2% during both periods.

The total number of employed individuals increased by around 1,700 people, rising from 3.7085 million in June to August to 3.7102 million in July to September. The total labor force for July to September was approximately 3.8301 million, similar to the figure of 3.8308 million from June to August.

The number of unemployed individuals decreased from 123,000 to 119,900, representing a reduction of around 2,400 people. Similarly, the number of underemployed individuals decreased from 47,500 to 46,000, a decline of about 1,500 people during the same period.

Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun noted that as the economy continues to grow, the overall labor market is expected to remain tight in the near term, with employment situations varying across different industries based on their business performance.
