A photo shared on the Facebook group has sparked heated discussions online. The image shows six large dogs tethered to the railings inside a pedestrian tunnel in Kowloon City, with their leashes short enough only for standing. Next to the dogs, three domestic helpers were seen sitting and chatting.
The post caption lamented, "Pity the dogs, their walk turned into punishment standing," suggesting that the outing was more of a social gathering for the helpers rather than a proper walk for the dogs, making them suffer in the heat akin to a "sauna."
Netizens reacted strongly to the scene, with some criticizing the helpers for being "excessive" and "senseless," while others blamed the pet owners for neglecting their responsibilities, suggesting, "If you don't have time to care for them, you shouldn't own pets."
Some proposed solutions like using tracking devices such as AirTags to monitor where helpers take the pets. A few also noted that each family's situation is different and it shouldn't be assumed that arranging for helpers to walk the dogs is inherently irresponsible.
