Trump claims title of 'father of IVF' to gain women's votes
As the 2024 United States presidential election enters its sprint stage, Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump referred to himself as the "father of IVF" during a Fox News town hall in Georgia before an all-female audience on Wednesday, to win over female voters.
Speaking in Georgia, Trump declared that the Republican Party supports fertility treatments, stating, "I want to talk about in vitro fertilization. I am the father of IVF. We indeed are the ones who support IVF and have been fighting for it, even more so than the Democratic Party, who are trying to attack us on this issue."
U.S. media notes that some conservatives do not support IVF. Earlier, Alabama, a conservative state, ruled that embryos from IVF are considered babies, leading some to consider transferring their frozen embryos to other states.
Trump's campaign team later said his remark was intended as a joke. Reuters cited polls showing that on the issue of reproductive rights, American voters generally trust the Democratic Party more than the Republican Party.
