Armed man arrested at Trump rally, alleged assassination plot thwarted
During a campaign rally in Southern California last Saturday (Oct. 12), a man was arrested near the venue for possessing a loaded firearm.
Foreign media reported that the suspect, 49-year-old Vem Miller from Las Vegas, was driving an unregistered vehicle with fake license plates. Police found a shotgun, a loaded handgun, high-capacity magazines, several passports, and driver's licenses with different names in his possession. Authorities believe they have prevented a potential assassination attempt.
The man was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm and high-capacity magazines. He was later released on a US$5,000 bail and is scheduled for a court appearance on Jan. 2nd next year.
The United States Secret Service (USSS) assessed that the incident did not impact the protective operations around former President Trump, who was not in danger at any point. Trump's campaign has not responded to the incident.
This incident follows a July event in Pennsylvania where Trump was injured by a gunshot near his right ear and last month, a man was arrested near his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, for an attempted assassination.
