US Election | Kamala Harris challenges Donald Trump on health issues by releasing medical report
Kamala Harris, the 59-year-old Democratic candidate for president and current vice president, released a detailed medical report on Oct. 12, showcasing her "excellent health" and fit for the presidency.
At the same time, Harris challenged her rival, 78-year-old Republican candidate Donald Trump, urging him to disclose his health records.
Since President Joe Biden announced his decision not to seek re-election, Trump's age and health have become a focal point for attacks from his opponents. Before heading to North Carolina, Harris remarked that Trump's reluctance to release his medical records is another example of his lack of transparency.
Dr. Joshua Simmons, a US Army colonel and physician to the vice president, stated in the report that Harris is in excellent health and possesses the physical and mental capacity necessary to fulfill the duties of the presidency.
In response, Trump's campaign issued a statement stressing that Trump is "in perfect and excellent health". The team also cited a November 2023 medical letter that said Trump's "physical exams were well within the normal range and his cognitive exams were exceptional".
As of now, the race between Harris and Trump remains tight. According to the latest poll released by The Wall Street Journal, the two candidates are neck-and-neck in seven key swing states: Harris leads in four, while Trump holds a slight edge in three.
