Senior Chinese official urges France to play constructive role in China-EU consultations
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CCP Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, spoke over the phone with Emmanuel Bonne, the French President's Diplomatic Counselor yesterday (Oct. 10).
During the call, Bonne discussed current China-EU economic and trade relations, expressing France's serious consideration of the cooperative consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries. Europe maintains its strategic autonomy and is committed to creating a fair business environment without excluding Chinese companies and products from the European market. He highlighted the hope of finding appropriate solutions through consultation.
Wang expressed the hope that France will view China-EU's economic and trade relations with a positive and open attitude, encourage the EU side to meet China halfway, and play a constructive role in consultation and negotiations between the two sides.
Wang reiterated China's principled stance on the Taiwan issue. Bonne affirmed France's respect for Chinese sovereignty and continued adherence to the One-China policy, stating that this stance would remain unchanged.
