Policy Address 2024 | John Lee visits HKPC to discuss traditional industry upgrades
John Lee, Hong Kong's Chief Executive, announced on social media that he visited the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) yesterday (Oct. 8) as part of consultations for the upcoming Policy Address scheduled for next Wednesday (Oct. 16).
During his visit, Lee met with representatives from various industries to discuss the current state of traditional industry upgrading and transformation, as well as the way forward for emerging and future industries.
Lee highlighted that emerging and future industries are crucial components of the new productive forces in development. He noted feedback from businesses involved in the assembly of circuit boards, who stated that recent government initiatives and policies, such as the New Industrialization Funding Scheme (NIFS), have significantly aided their operations.
These measures have also attracted foreign enterprises interested in manufacturing high-end appliances and electronic products in Hong Kong. Lee suggested that the government should introduce more related measures to promote the application of smart manufacturing technologies, thereby supporting the development of emerging and future industries in the region.
After exchanging views with business representatives, Lee expressed a stronger conviction that Hong Kong must seize the opportunities brought by national policies that support the development of high-end intelligent manufacturing. This direction will accelerate and enhance the development of new productive forces, achieve new industrialization, and aid in upgrading and transforming traditional industries while nurturing the growth of emerging and future industries.
Lee stated that he and his team would delve deeply into the opinions collected to assist in drafting the Policy Address.
