Coldplay tickets resold at HK$40,000? Beware of scams!
British rock band Coldplay is set to perform three shows in April next year at the Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong. As tickets continue to go on sale, a flood of resale listings has emerged on online platforms, with some tickets being resold at prices more than seven times their original value.
The first batch of tickets was sold through "artist pre-sale" on Oct. 7, and within less than 20 minutes, tickets were marked as sold out. Many fans, fearing they might miss the chance to attend the concerts, have turned to some resellers to purchase tickets.
Since Coldplay's HK concert tickets are not tied to real-name registration, many buyers have purchased multiple tickets at once and are now reselling them at inflated prices.
Resale listings have appeared on platforms such as Carousell, Xianyu, and Xiaohongshu. Some resellers are asking as much as HK$40,000 (over seven times the original price) for four tickets originally priced at HK$1,299 each. Similarly, package tickets originally priced at HK$2,799 are being resold for HK$6,000, and standing tickets priced at HK$1,399 are being resold for HK$2,500.
Carousell, a popular auction platform in HK, issued a statement on Oct. 8, clarifying that reselling concert tickets above face value is prohibited on its platform. The company stated that it is actively monitoring its platform to remove such listings and encouraged users to report these products using the app or website's reporting feature.
Please note that according to DotDotNews reporters' experience of purchasing tickets, physical tickets for Coldplay's concerts will not be available for collection until March next year. Buyers will need both the Redemption Claim ID and Password, which is set by buyers themselves during the purchase process, to pick up physical tickets. Fans looking to purchase tickets from resellers should exercise caution and avoid falling victim to scams.
For those still hoping to buy tickets, the official general on-sale via Cityline will start at 10:00 a.m. on Oct. 10.
