Transportation needs improvement to handle crowds at Kai Tak Sports Park, says LegCo member

Kai Tak Sports Park is expected to open in the first quarter of next year, with the Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament scheduled for March and Coldplay concerts in April.

Speaking on a radio program this morning (Oct. 8), Legislative Council member Yang Wing-kit expressed concerns that relying solely on the Tuen Ma Line to handle the crowd from events held at Kai Tak Sports Park would be insufficient. He suggested that additional bus services connecting to other MTR stations and border crossings should be considered, as well as the possibility of utilizing water transport.

Yang also noted that if there were issues at the Kai Tak MTR station, directing crowds to walk to Diamond Hill station would be far from ideal and should not be the primary option. He suggested that other stations, such as To Kwa Wan, Choi Hung, or Ho Man Tin, would be better alternatives if walking became necessary.

Kai Tak Sports Park is set to officially open in March 2025, with the main stadium offering around 50,000 seats — four times the capacity of the Hong Kong Coliseum.
