Kai Tak Smart and Green Mass Transit Systems tender advanced to next year
The government plans to construct Smart and Green Mass Transit Systems in East Kowloon, Kai Tak, and the new development areas of Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen, aiming to provide convenient and eco-friendly transit connections to nearby railway stations and major public transport hubs.
According to a document submitted to the Legislative Council by the Transport and Logistics Bureau (TLB), some of the statutory procedures for the Kai Tak Smart and Green Mass Transit Systems project will proceed concurrently with the detailed design stage.
This adjustment allows the tendering process to be brought forward by one year, with the hope of issuing the construction contract by 2026.
The TLB has stated it will explore possibilities to compress the timeline across planning, design, and construction stages, such as adopting designs suitable for manufacturing and assembly, and integrated electromechanical systems.
Depending on the final procurement strategy, contractors will be required to complete the construction within three years after finishing the detailed design and statutory procedures, about a year faster than the original schedule. The aim is for the system to be operational as soon as possible. For projects in East Kowloon and Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen, the authority intends to seek tenders by 2026.
