22-year-old mother leaving baby girl at home arrested by police
The authorities received a report stating that a 9-month-old baby girl had been left alone in an apartment in Hong Fai Mansion on Tong Choi Street at around 3 a.m. today (Oct. 7).
It is said that the 22-year-old unemployed mother was drinking with friends at a bar in Jordan at the time of the incident. A patron at the neighboring table overheard her telling her friends that she had left her baby alone at home. The patron then became alert and called the police for the sake of the baby's safety.
Rescue personnel arrived at the location around 4:16 a.m. and heard the baby crying when they were outside the house. Since no one answered the door, firefighters entered and rescued the baby, who was fortunately safe.
The police took over the investigation and made contact with the 22-year-old mother, surnamed Ji, and subsequently arrested her on suspicion of child neglect. A friend of the mother carried the baby onto the ambulance, which transported her to Kwong Wah Hospital for examination.
