HK to create star effect of pandas to boost 'panda economy'
The two giant pandas, "An An" and "Ke Ke" are expected to meet the public in December.
Legislative Council Member (Tourism) Yiu Pak-leung noted that various sectors in Hong Kong are brainstorming ways to build panda brands. He expressed hope that panda elements could be incorporated into product development, with the ultimate goal of creating a "star effect" of pandas, which he believes could generate significant momentum for the "panda economy".
Pong Kin-yee, Chairman of the Board of Ocean Park Corporation also emphasized the Park's plans to seize the opportunity by reshaping the ambassadorial image of each giant panda, based on their unique personalities.
The Park is in talks with various production companies and commercial entities to launch more panda-related merchandise, dining options, events, business partnerships, and even accommodations. Pong is optimistic that these efforts will generate substantial revenue for Ocean Park and contribute positively to HK's overall economy.
