WTT China Smash update: Chinese table tennis team secures all five titles
On Oct. 4, the 2024 WTT China Smash entered its sixth day of competition. The Chinese national table tennis team has already secured the championship and runner-up positions in all five events.
In Men's Singles, Lin Shidong defeated Denmark's Anders Lind 4-0, who had previously knocked out Wang Chuqin. Xiang Peng overcame Olympic silver medalist and Swedish star Truls Moregard with a narrow 4-3 victory. Lin and Xiang will face off in the semifinals for a spot in the final. Table tennis legend Ma Long secured a 4-0 win over Brazil's Hugo Calderano. Ma Long will meet teammate Liang Jingkun in the semifinals, who staged a 4-2 comeback against Lin Gaoyuan.
In Women's Singles, Sun Yingsha once again dominated her long-time rival Mima Ito, advancing to the semifinals with a 4-0 victory. She will face fellow Chinese player Fan Siqi, who defeated veteran Cheng I-ching from Chinese Taipei 4-3. Meanwhile, second seed Wang Manyu overcame teammate He Zhuojia 4-1 and will compete against fourth seed Chen Xingtong for a spot in the final. Chen advanced by beating South Korea's player Suh Hyo-won 4-0.
In Men's Doubles, Lin Gaoyuan/Lin Shidong won a hard-fought 3-2 victory over teammates Yuan Licen/Xiang Peng. Liang Jingkun/Wang Chuqin claimed a 3-0 win against the French Lebrun brothers.
In Women's Doubles, Wang Yidi/Sun Yingsha cruised to a 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei's Cheng I-ching/Li Yu-jhun. Qian Tianyi/Chen Xingtong also secured a 3-0 win against teammates Chen Yi/Xu Yi.
In Mixed Doubles, the Chinese pair Lin Shidong/Kuaiman clinched the title with a 3-1 victory over teammates Lin Gaoyuan/Wang Yidi, with the Chinese national table tennis team securing both the championship and runner-up spots in Mixed Doubles.
