Moregard eliminates three Japanese players at the 2024 WTT China Smash
At the 2024 WTT China Smash today (Oct. 3), during the men's singles 1/8 finals, Japanese player Harimoto Tomokazu was defeated by Sweden's Truls Moregard with scores of 13-15, 11-9, 4-11, 11-6, 11-13, resulting in the elimination of all Japanese men's singles players.
Moregard first breezed through the initial round with a 3-0 victory over Japan's Yoshimura Maharu, advancing to the top 32. In the second round, he narrowly defeated Japan's new ace, Sora Matsushima, with a score of 3-2. Today, in the third round, he faced Japan's top player, Harimoto Tomokazu, and secured another 3-2 win to move into the quarterfinals.
Previously, at the Paris Olympics table tennis men's singles competition, Moregard defeated China's Wang Chu-qin 4-2 and made his way to the final. He faced China's Fan Zhen-dong in the decisive match, ultimately losing 1-4 and securing a silver medal.
