Housing Authority launches rent-free shops for young entrepreneurs
The Housing Authority (HA) has set aside 17 shop spaces in its malls, offering them rent-free to entrepreneurs aged 35 or below.
The initiative, set to last for seven months, also includes assistance with shop renovation and marketing. The Secretary for Housing, Ho Wing-yin expressed hopes that this program will both stimulate entrepreneurship and boost consumer spending.
Ho noted the goal is to create opportunities for young people to progress step by step. By providing a platform for them to launch new products and designs, it also aims to attract new customer groups to the HA's malls, benefiting both sides.
Director of Housing, Law Shuk-pui, stated that small businesses flourishing under this scheme could potentially expand to larger venues such as the Hong Kong Coliseum or the Kai Tak Sports Park in the future, accumulating valuable business experience and expanding their operations.
The HA mentioned that it would regularly review the participants' business performance. During the program, the Authority will collect 20% of the net profits earned by participants to support the ongoing development of the program.
