The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) today (Sept. 30) reported that Krathon has intensified into a super typhoon and has entered within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong.
According to HKO's current forecasts, Krathon will cross the Luzon Strait into the northeastern South China Sea, gradually turning northward on Oct. 1. It is expected to make landfall in southern Taiwan on Wednesday (Oct. 2), then cross Taiwan, maintaining a distance of over 500 kilometers from Hong Kong, posing minimal direct threat to the region.
The HKO noted that due to the peripheral subsidence airflows of Krathon, the weather in South China will be extremely hot today (Sept. 30) and tomorrow (Oct. 1). A northeast monsoon is expected to reach Guangdong tomorrow, with northerly winds strengthening gradually. Significant winds are forecasted for Wednesday (Oct. 2) and Thursday (Oct. 3) in the area, and the HKO will issue strong monsoon signals depending on local wind conditions.
Affected by the monsoon, the weather in Hong Kong will generally be clear and dry later this week, with cooler mornings and evenings, and urban minimum temperatures around 22 degrees Celsius. Residents should stay aware of weather changes.
