WeChat Pay HK expands Transit QR Code to Macao and 50 mainland cities
WeChat Pay HK has expanded its Transit QR Code service to include transportation modes such as Macao buses, Changsha Metro, Zhongshan buses, Zhuhai buses, Dongguan Metro, and buses.
Users can now simply scan the QR code at the machine to ride and pay in Hong Kong dollars, eliminating the need to buy tickets in different cities. The service is now available in Hong Kong, Macao, and mainland China.
In celebration of the National Day holiday, from now until Oct. 31, WeChat Pay HK is offering transportation coupons worth up to RMB8 for use in mainland China.
Users can activate the Transit QR Code by opening WeChat Pay HK, selecting the city switch at the top left corner, and completing a few steps for verification.
Once activated, users can scan the code to board or alight vehicles or to enter and exit stations. Fares in RMB are automatically converted to Hong Kong dollars at the best exchange rate for settlement. Payments made using Hong Kong dollar balances, Hong Kong credit cards, or Hong Kong bank accounts are processed with no handling fees.
