Chinapedia | Essential Apps for living or traveling in China: Maps & Ride-hailing
While China is an incredible country to visit, it can be challenging for foreigners who visit China for the first time to get around. Many Apps that foreigners are more familiar with, such as Google Maps, Uber, or Lyft, are useless in China. So what are some Apps that are equivalent to Google Maps and Uber that help tourists move around in China?
Gaode Maps
Gaode Maps is equivalent to Google Maps but also offers ride-hailing services. Although the App is not available in English, the correct location results will show when users search by English addresses.
Didi
Didi is equivalent to Uber in China. It is available in both Chinese and English and even automatically translates for users if users communicate with the driver in the App. Like most ride-hailing Apps, Didi has several different options ranging from “Express” to “Luxe”.
Besides downloading the Didi App, users who already have WeChat installed can access Didi through the WeChat mini program as well.
