On the morning of Sept. 26, the first low-altitude cross-border flight from Guangzhou to Hong Kong successfully took off from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
The flight, which takes approximately 40 minutes, landed directly at Hong Kong International Airport, significantly reducing the cross-border travel time between the two cities and marking a new low-altitude air corridor in the Greater Bay Area.
The inaugural flight used a Sikorsky S92 helicopter, which can accommodate 19 passengers and 2 crew members. Currently in a trial operation phase, the service is primarily offered as chartered flights.
As market demand grows, China Southern Airlines General Aviation Company plans to launch regular short-haul flights with landing points at Shun Tak Centre in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, and Hong Kong International Airport. The company intends to deploy a variety of helicopters including Sikorsky S76 and Bell 429, enhancing travel options for passengers.
It was also noted that the Greater Bay Area has already developed several low-altitude flying projects including air tours of Zhuhai and its islands and Shenzhen, with a helicopter route between Sanya and Zhanjiang set to open soon.
China Southern Airlines General Aviation Company aims to introduce more cross-border and provincial routes between cities in the Greater Bay Area, fostering seamless connections between various aircraft sizes to cover the "last mile" of travel, supporting the development of the low-altitude economy in regions like the Greater Bay Area and Hainan Free Trade Island.
