
The Airport Authority announced that the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)'s passenger volume reached 4.92 million in August, representing a 23% year-on-year increase. On Aug. 18, the single-day passenger volume exceeded 170,000, which was a record-high after the post-pandemic period.
All categories of travelers, including Hong Kong residents, visitors, and transit passengers, saw significant increases compared to the same period last year, with the most notable rises in passenger numbers traveling to and from Southeast Asia, the mainland, and Japan.
Additionally, the airport's cargo volume last month was 406,000 metric tons, a 10.6% increase on a year-on-year basis. Export cargo continued to be the main driver of growth, rising by 14.6% compared to the previous year. Among various major trading regions, the cargo volume to and from Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East recorded the largest increases during the month.
