With the National Day "Golden Week" approaching, the Travel Industry Authority (TIA) announced today (Sept. 25) that it will take measures to strengthen the management of inbound tour groups from the mainland.
The TIA participated in inter-departmental meetings convened by the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau on Aug. 23 and Sept. 20 to coordinate the reception of visitors to Hong Kong during the National Day "Golden Week," discussing the management arrangements for inbound tour groups with relevant government departments and industries.
Normally, most inbound visitors from the mainland come to Hong Kong by way of "individual visit"; tour group visitors typically opt for off-peak travel. According to the industry's latest data provided to the TIA, approximately 925 inbound tour groups are expected to visit Hong Kong during the National Day Golden Week, which averages about 132 groups per day, involving around 36,000 visitors.
The TIA reminds licensed travel agents and tour guides to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Travel Industry Ordinance and Directives for Licensees. When they plan itineraries, appropriate crowd management and bus management should be arranged to coordinate the flow of people and traffic. They must also pay close attention to special transport arrangements and information related to attractions to provide travelers with a good experience.
During the National Day Golden Week holiday, the TIA will mobilize more staff to patrol locations with a higher activity of inbound tour groups, including major ports, registered shops, popular tourist attractions, and restaurants visited by inbound tour groups, ensuring that tour activities proceed in an orderly manner. The hotline service at 3698 5900 will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to assist travelers and tour guides in need.
