Trump assassination attempt suspect charged with 3 additional offenses
According to foreign media, on Sept. 24 (local time), the US Department of Justice prosecutors filed more charges against Ryan Wesley Routh, the suspect in the attempted assassination of Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump, including "attempted assassination of a major political candidate" and so on.
According to reports, the indictment adds three charges to the previous charges of gun-related offenses, including "attempting to assassinate a major political candidate", possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime and assaulting a federal official.
Prosecutors also said in a filing that Routh possessed a handwritten log sheet that included dates of venues where Trump had appeared or was expected to appear and allegedly moved around Trump's golf courses and resorts several times in the month leading up to his arrest, the report said.
It was previously reported that on Sept. 15, Routh, armed with a rifle and food, was spotted by Secret Service agents outside the Trump's golf club course in West Palm Beach, Florida, before he could fire a shot and was arrested shortly after that.
The latest court documents also say that a witness contacted investigators three days after Routh's arrest and said, "A few months ago, Routh had a suitcase at his residence. It contained ammunition, metal pipes, construction materials, tools, four mobile phones, and multiple letters."
ABC noted that Routh will be arraigned at a court hearing next week.
