It is widely believed that Israel orchestrated the bombing. The dead and wounded reportedly included Hezbollah members, but also their families and innocent civilians. Two of the 37 dead were children.
A surgeon said most of the people he treated were young men, but there were also women and children, and "most of them looked like civilians".
Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad said such attacks constituted a war crime and that "the whole world saw that these attacks took place in the bazaar."
"They (the dead and wounded) were not people fighting in a war zone, they were just in a civilian area with their families".
