Mainland cities suspend classes due to Typhoon Pulasan
Pulasan, the 14th typhoon of the year, which reached a maximum wind force of 23 meters per second near its center, hit Fengxian district of Shanghai on Sept. 19 at about 9:45 pm after its first landfall earlier the same day in Zhejiang province.
China's financial hub, Shanghai, had evacuated 112,000 people as of Friday (Sept. 20) morning due to Typhoon Pulasan, which brought record-breaking rainfall to parts of the city.
According to the municipal flood control office in Shanghai, 649 vessels have either been evacuated or returned to port to seek shelter, 54 train services have been suspended, and 26 ferries' operations have been halted.
Affected by the typhoon, parts of Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Fujian will experience heavy rainfall from Thursday to Friday. Parts of Zhejiang and Anhui should also expect downpours.
As Typhoon Pulasan approaches, the cities of Changzhou, Wuxi, and Jingjiang have suspended classes for Friday to ensure the safety of students.
