Guangzhou-Shenzhen-HK XRL passengers increased by 46% year on year
According to the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (CR), from Jan. to Aug. this year, national railways transported nearly 3 billion passengers, marking a 14.5% increase year-on-year and setting a new record for the same period in history.
Among these, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL) alone accounted for nearly 18 million cross-border passengers, showing a 46% increase compared to the same period last year.
The head of the Passenger Transport Department at CR explained that railway passenger transport capacity has been enhanced this year. On average, 10,730 passenger trains have been scheduled daily across the country, a 10.5% increase from the previous year. The railway has dynamically analyzed passenger travel demands, timely increasing capacity in popular directions and sections to meet these needs.
According to the person in charge, efforts to strengthen the organization of cross-border passenger transport have led to nearly 18 million cross-border passengers traveling on the XRL, with the China-Laos railway transporting 163,000 cross-border passengers. Regular passenger train services have been maintained, including the operation of public welfare "slow trains" and rural revitalization trains, facilitating travel for the elderly, youth, and residents of impoverished areas.
The railway department has also focused on improving service quality. The functionality of the 12306 railway service has been optimized with scientifically devised ticketing strategies to enhance the passenger ticketing experience continuously. Modern ticketing services such as multi-ride and period tickets now cover 60 routes, with tourism packages available on 11 routes.
The railway smooth travel code covers all high-speed trains, with 120 stations nationwide offering easy transfers, over 80 stations providing internet meal ordering services, and the "quiet car" service expanded to 92 high-speed trains. These initiatives aim to improve onboard dining services, provide special assistance to key passengers including the elderly, disabled, pregnant, and enhance the overall travel environment by promoting civilized travel.
