Chief Executive John Lee met with reporters before attending the Executive Council meeting. Lee stated that the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government places great importance on the 75th National Day, establishing the Steering Committee on District Governance chaired by the Secretary for Administration, as well as the Task Force on District Governance, led by the Deputy Secretary for Administration, to coordinate and supervise the preparation of National Day celebrations.

Under government initiatives, Lee noted that the community is more actively and enthusiastically participating in National Day celebrations than ever before, with over 400 events planned. He highlighted three major features of this year's celebrations:

First, diversity is a key theme, with activities ranging from a flag-raising ceremony and a National Day reception in the morning to a fireworks show over Victoria Harbor in the evening. Each policy bureau actively promotes National Day in various ways, incorporating the number "75" into many activities, such as organizing 75 civil service teams for community service, providing free dental check-ups to 750 elderly citizens, and subsidizing local trips for 7,500 residents.

Second, city-wide celebrations are set to take place, with recent large-scale displays of National Day decorations, including national flags, regional flags, lamp posts, colorful flags, posters and large banners, etc., the whole community will be filled with a lively atmosphere of the National Day.

The 18 Home Affairs Department will work with district councils and local groups to organize drone shows, parades, specialty markets, and lantern exhibitions, showcasing local culture and celebrating the nation's founding.

Third, inclusivity and enjoyment for all, with the government subsidizing half the cost of movie tickets on Oct. 1 through the Film Development Fund. Various special offers will be available, including free tram rides and discounted fares on MTR and buses for children on National Day.

From Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, ferry rides will be free on selected routes, and on Oct. 1, sports facilities, museum exhibitions, and the Hong Kong Wetland Park will be free of charge.

Lee further mentioned that on Oct. 1, various discounts and rewards will be available across numerous malls, department stores, the West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong Ocean Park, Ngong Ping 360, and the Peak Tram. Around 3,000 restaurants will offer dining discounts, and at least 10,000 public market stalls and hawkers will provide shopping discounts. From Oct. 1-7, local produce shops, online stores, and mobile apps will offer discounts on select products.

Later today, the Secretary for Administration will hold a press conference with relevant bureau chiefs to detail this year's exciting National Day celebration events.
