Chief Executive John Lee delivered a video address at a luncheon hosted by women in the Hong Kong business community to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China today (Sept. 16).

In his speech, Lee noted that women make up 54% of HK's population. The HKSAR government places great importance on women's development and always provides support for their work.

He mentioned that with the joint efforts of the government and various sectors of society, women in HK have achieved remarkable success across different fields. Last year, nearly 40% of managerial positions in HK were held by women. Additionally, this year, over 80% of listed companies in HK have at least one female board member, a more than 10% increase from three years ago.

Next month marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Reflecting on this journey, Lee highlighted the significant role women have played both in the family and in their careers, contributing greatly to societal development.

Looking forward, he expressed hope that women in business could continue to play a crucial role and contribute their wisdom and strength in HK's integration into the national development strategy and consolidation of the international economic and trade network.
