The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr. Lam Sai-hung, together with Members of the Legislative Council Panel on Transport, today (Sept. 12) continued their visit to Shanghai. The Commissioner for Transport, Ms. Angela Lee, also joined the visit.
In the morning, Mr. Lam and the delegation visited the Shanghai Hongqiao Comprehensive Transportation Hub to learn about its operations. The transportation hub, which comprises Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport terminal, railway stations, long-haul bus stations, transport interchanges and subway stations, handles over a million passengers daily. The delegation then met with the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission to exchange views on smart mobility and traffic management.
Mr. Lam said that Hong Kong is studying the construction of a new generation of transport interchange hubs (TIHs) at strategic locations, which will integrate various transport facilities and amenities in a one-stop manner. TIHs will efficiently gather and disperse passengers and integrate transport with the daily lives and various activities of the public, while driving the development of the neighbouring areas. Additionally, with frequent exchanges between Shanghai and Hong Kong, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region looks forward to exploring further opportunities to enhance connections and co-operation with Shanghai authorities.
The delegation will leave Shanghai in the afternoon and will begin their visit to Hangzhou tomorrow (Sept. 13).
