The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) urges the public not to engage in activities such as burning or melting wax, or releasing sky lanterns during the Mid-Autumn celebrations. It is recommended to place candles in metal containers or non-flammable holders to collect melted wax. After the container has cooled, dispose of the contents in a trash bin.
The spokesperson emphasized that staff will be deployed to patrol facilities, including parks, public beaches, and barbecue areas, to enforce regulations against littering, wax burning, throwing objects into trees, and releasing sky lanterns. Violators can be fined up to HK$1,500 for littering and up to HK$2,000 and/or face up to 14 days in jail for the other offenses.
