In a recent address at the 57th Regular Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Dr. Henry Ho, a prominent think tank leader, highlighted Hong Kong's potential as an international talent hub and innovative technology center. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Dr. Ho emphasized the city's unique status as a leading financial center and its commitment to attracting global talent.
Dr. Ho introduced the Top Talent Pass Scheme, which offers visas to graduates from the world's top 100 universities and high-income professionals, allowing them two years to secure employment in Hong Kong. He noted that over 140,000 individuals have already chosen to make Hong Kong their home, drawn by its cosmopolitan environment and competitive economic advantages.
The speaker pointed out the attractive financial landscape of Hong Kong, featuring low tax rates and no dividend or capital gains tax. With a maximum income tax rate of just 15%, many residents pay only between 5% and 10%. He also highlighted Hong Kong's role as a gateway to mainland China, mentioning the recent implementation of a visa-free transit policy that allows travelers to explore the country.
Dr. Ho concluded his speech by encouraging individuals to experience the vibrancy of Hong Kong for themselves, asserting that "numbers speak for themselves" in showcasing the city's appeal amidst varying opinions.
