Joint effort and cooperation needed for development of mainland, HK, Macao, and Taiwan: CE
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Hong Kong-Guangdong-Macao-Taiwan Youth Entrepreneurs Summit was held today (Sept. 10). Participating in the ceremony were National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Vice Chairman Leung Chun-ying, Hong Kong's Chief Executive John Lee, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Zheng Yanxiong, and Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong SAR Cui Jianchun, among others.
In his speech, John Lee stated that the ties between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and Hong Kong and Macao are deep-rooted, emphasizing that sincere cooperation and joint growth are essential paths for focused development.
As contemporary youth entrepreneurs of the Chinese nation, Lee noted, they should work together toward progress.
John Lee noted that under "one country, two systems," Hong Kong possesses the unique advantage of linking the nation with the world.
"Hong Kong is an international center for finance, shipping, and trade, and is the only city in Asia with five top 100 universities, boasting strong research capabilities and advanced technological foundations to attract talent from home and abroad, striving to create a high-end talent hub."
According to him, Hong Kong actively integrates into the national development framework, aligning with national policies such as the "14th Five-Year Plan," the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) development, and the Belt and Road initiative, while also consolidating its business network that connects the world, playing a role as a "super-connector" and "super value-added contributor" to regional coordinated development.
John Lee expressed that the blood ties between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and Hong Kong and Macao are "strong and interdependent." He expressed confidence that as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan region works towards high-quality development, entrepreneurs from both sides of the Taiwan Strait will seize opportunities to open a new chapter in regional coordinated development.
John Lee also encouraged young people to pursue their dreams and achieve new leaps forward. He stated that Hong Kong's successful implementation of "one country, two systems" is an unprecedented pioneering model, and the city will continue to serve as a forerunner and practitioner of it, uniting the patriotic youth forces, fully leveraging its strong institutional advantages, and contributing to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
