HK residents aged 60 or above must use JoyYou Card to enjoy HK$2 Scheme from Aug. 25

From today onwards (Aug. 25), JoyYou Card is an On-Loan Personalised Octopus designed for Hong Kong residents aged 60 or above. JoyYou Card holders can travel on designated public transport modes and services at a concessionary fare of $2 per trip under the Government Public Transport Fare Concession Scheme for the Elderly and Eligible Persons with Disabilities ($2 Scheme).

MTR staff at the Wong Tai Sin entrance reminded seniors to use the "JoyYou Card" for entry and assisted those who had not yet applied for the card in obtaining application forms.

It was observed that most seniors have already switched to the "JoyYou Card" instead of the previous Anonymous Elder Octopus card.

Some seniors who have not yet applied for the "JoyYou Card" mentioned they "forget to apply in advance" due to their age. Others who have switched to the "JoyYou Card" plan to keep their old Elder Octopus cards because those cards are registered for the government consumption vouchers, and they worry that if related policies arise in the future, they will need to apply again, which would be inconvenient.

Additionally, some seniors plan to keep another Octopus card. One individual expressed concern that if there are future consumption vouchers, they may need to re-register. They also noted that they might forget to bring both cards when going out, so they asked staff to confirm that even without the "JoyYou Card," they could still enjoy the half-price fare.

MTR reminds us that the "JoyYou Card" application process takes about four weeks. Passengers aged 65 and above can continue using the Anonymous Elder Octopus or the personal Elder Octopus to ride the MTR, with discounts of approximately half the adult fare. Passengers aged 60 to 64 who do not have a "JoyYou Card" will need to pay the adult fare and will not be eligible for the half-price or HK$2 Scheme.
