Since June last year, the Transport Department and public transport operators have been conducting joint operations to curb the misuse of the HK$2 fare concession for the elderly and disabled.

Recently, netizens have posted multiple photos on social media, indicating that MTR staff have been enforcing and investigating cases of fare evasion and improper use of the HK$2 concession.

The photos show that multiple staff members were "guarding" the fare gates at Chai Wan MTR station, inside and outside, and some passengers were stopped.

One eyewitness commented that a young person was caught by the staff, apparently trying to "beat the system," the staff asked if he could pay the fine immediately, but the person said he could not pay it right then.

Furthermore, starting from the 25th, Hong Kong residents aged 60 or above must use the "Senior Citizen Octopus Card" to enjoy the HK$2 fare concession.

The MTR stated that starting this Sunday, passengers aged 65 or above who continue to use the current anonymous elderly Octopus card or individual elderly Octopus card will only receive a concession of about half the adult fare. In contrast, those aged 60 to 64 who do not use the "Senior Citizen Octopus Card" will have to pay the full adult fare.
