Installation of automatic platform gates at Lo Wu Station of the MTR East Rail Line commenced yesterday evening (Aug. 9), ahead of the original plan to commence works in the fourth quarter of this year.
According to the MTR, automatic platform gates are now in service at seven stations along the East Rail Line, while installation works are underway at Fo Tan, Tai Wo and Kowloon Tong stations. The MTR will make use of the "golden two hours" after the close of train service in the evening and make use of the off-peak hours in the daytime at some stations with spare platforms to continue the installation works. The three stations at Lo Wu, Mong Kok East and University Stations, where the platforms are more curved, are the last batch of stations on the East Rail Line to undergo the works.
During the installation period, MTR will deploy platform assistants to maintain order and assist passengers in need, while various safety measures will be in place to advise passengers not to stand near platform edges or trespass on the tracks. The MTR said it will closely monitor the situation at platforms and provide assistance to passengers.
