HK residents aged 60 or above must use JoyYou Card to enjoy $2 Scheme from Aug. 25
Hong Kong residents (including eligible persons with disabilities) aged 60 or above must use JoyYou Card to enjoy the $2 Scheme from Aug. 25, 2024.
Passengers aged 65 or above who still use Anonymous Elder Octopus or Personalised Elder Octopus to travel on MTR will only be offered a "Concessionary Fare" which is about half of Adult Fare for MTR domestic services while passengers aged between 60 and 64 will have to pay the Adult Fare if they do not use the JoyYou Card, according to MTR.
Eligible individuals are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible since the JoyYou Card application process takes around four weeks to complete.
The government will subsidize a HK$20 application fee for the first-time application for the JoyYou Card. Similar to the arrangement for collecting a HK$50 deposit from On-Loan Anonymous Octopus users, JoyYou Card holders shall reload the Card with an amount of more than HK$50 before using the card, in which HK$50 will be a refundable deposit. If eligible applicants apply for a replacement card or another JoyYou Card after the refund, they will be charged HK$20 as an administrative fee, according to Octopus Cards Limited.
It also sets up 8 temporary JoyYou Card Application Service Centres from June 24 to Aug. 31 to assist people in submitting their applications or supplementary information (please click here for more details).
