Average waiting time for general applications for PRH drops to 5.5 years
The Housing Authority announced today (Aug. 12) the latest waiting time for public rental housing (PRH). The average waiting time for general applicants who were allocated PRH in the past 12 months dropped by 0.2 years to 5.5 years at the end of June this year, among which the average waiting time for single elderly persons dropped by 0.1 years to 3.7 years.
About 7,000 general applications were allocated PRH in the second quarter of this year, the highest number since the third quarter of 2022. Among them, about 900 were single elderly applications. In addition, about 500 non-elderly one-person applications under the Quota and Points System (QPS) were allocated in the same quarter.
The Housing Authority said 4,400 general applications are allocated new PRH flats in Fu Tip Estate in Tai Po, Cheung Ching Estate in Tsing Yi, and Yip Wong Estate in Tuen Mun this quarter, of which the flats in Cheung Ching and Yip Wong Estates are completed by phases in advance under the PRH Advance Allocation Scheme. These projects were completed nine months and five months earlier than the completion dates of the entire development respectively, thus enabling PRH applicants to be allocated PRH flats earlier.
The Housing Authority pointed out that the average waiting time for PRH in the second quarter of 2024 has therefore dropped correspondingly by 0.2 years to 5.5 years with the efforts to expedite the allocation of new PRH flats and the relatively shorter average waiting time for applicants moving into PRH in the New Territories.
