WeChat: Fake customer service claims service expiry

In Hong Kong, as the Sender ID of SMS is not under control, scammers can maliciously generate a Sender ID (e.g. WeChat) and send a fraudulent SMS, which will be merged with a previously sent ordinary SMS, putting users at risk of falling into the trap of SMS scamming. (DotDotNews)

DotDotNews reporter recently received a WeChat official text message, said "WeChat capital security insurance will soon expire, from now on the monthly deduction of 2000 yuan for a total of three years of 72,000 yuan. If you don't need to use the insurance, please contact customer service to close to avoid the charge", and with a website address.

WeChat Pay HK today (Aug. 7) issued a fraud prevention alert, pointing out that recently fraudsters have impersonated WeChat to make calls or send fraudulent messages to lure users with deceptive tactics such as "million-dollar guarantee/fund security insurance expires" or "account has been frozen and you need to click the link to unfreeze the account', etc. WeChat Pay HK urges members of the public to be more vigilant to prevent them from being defrauded.

WeChat Pay HK noted, "Transferring money to WeChat Pay HK must be fake! WeChat will not in any way ask the public to pay for or provide any bank card information for account security assurance''.
