'Gunslinger'? Turkey's shooting athlete takes silver with no other equipment
With the Paris Olympics in full swing, Turkey's Yusuf Dikec, who won the silver medal with no other equipment with his teammates in the mixed team 10m air pistol competition on July 30, has attracted widespread attention on the world wide web, and has been jokingly dubbed by netizens as a "gunslinger".
Most shooters wear a variety of aids on the range, including shooting glasses to avoid blurring and improve accuracy, as well as anti-noise earmuffs to protect their ears. However, the 51-year-old Dikec wore only a pair of plain black-rimmed glasses and a Turkish team shirt.
Its unique relaxation attracted a lot of comments from the global audience, with many netizens jokingly saying, "Did Turkey send a killer to the Olympics?" and "The athlete sent by Turkey seems to have picked up a pistol just for fun and won a silver medal."
According to online information, Dikec, born in 1973, is a retired sergeant of the Turkish Gendarmerie, who started shooting sports in 2001 (age 28).
