A gunman opened fire at Citigroup's office campus near Tampa, Florida, on Wednesday, killing an employee and wounding four before an armed guard shot him dead, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said Jacob Pearson, 35, of Orlando, was angry over a $2,500 credit-card debt sent to collection. He crashed his car through a gate and fired in a courtyard shortly after noon, then entered a cafeteria, where John Fraley of Citibank's armed security team shot him five times.

Four employees were hospitalised and have since been released. About 3,200 staff work at the four three-storey buildings on the campus.
