The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) now connects to about 220 destinations and aims to reach 240 within five years (2026 to 2030), focusing on South America, Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East, the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Ms Mable Chan, wrote in her blog today (Nov. 7).
On Tuesday (Nov. 3), the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkish Airlines, giving HKIA access to the carrier's Europe, Africa and Americas network and more cargo sources. The "Linking the Trunk and Branch, Connecting Urban and Remote" transit service, first covering Hangzhou and Wuhan, is also now in operation.
The remarks came as Deputy Administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) Mr Han Jun led a delegation to Hong Kong this week for an aviation seminar. Ms Chan said the visit gave the airport community first-hand insight into how the National 15th Five-Year Plan supports Hong Kong's role as an international aviation hub, helping the Government and the industry align with the national strategy.
