US President Donald Trump has renewed his threat to launch strikes on Iran, claiming he may "deal a heavy blow."
Speaking at a Republican campaign rally in Iowa, Trump said he had not yet fully resolved the Iran issue only because he wanted to show goodwill and save as many lives as possible, but that at some point he would have no choice but to strike Iran hard.
Trump has repeatedly said the Iran issue is nearing a decisive moment. While he has ruled out resuming military action before the US midterm elections, he has not abandoned the possibility of renewing strikes on Iran afterwards.
Analysts say Gulf states fear that if the United States and Israel attack Iran again, it could trigger a more destructive war across the region, and they would ultimately be left to pick up the pieces.
