Nearly 70 foreign consuls and representatives from more than 50 countries — including 30 consuls-general based in Hong Kong — departed from the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR for a firsthand look to the Northern Metropolis, one of Hong Kong's most significant long-term development initiatives.
The delegation's first stop was the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park in Hetao, a key component of Hong Kong's innovation and technology landscape. The delegation toured the Visitor Centre, a wet laboratory, and talent accommodation, gaining a practical understanding of the park's progress. They then received a briefing from the Development Bureau on the overall planning and latest development of the Northern Metropolis, covering land use, infrastructure, and industry positioning.
The delegation subsequently proceeded to the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area Community Liaison Centre, where interactive showcases presented the district's planning and development. The visit provided the consuls with a closer view of how Hong Kong is shaping its future and how the Northern Metropolis will deepen the city's integration with the Greater Bay Area.
The visit underscores Hong Kong's role as a super-connector between the mainland and the world, as well as its growing integration with the wider region.
