Hong Kong's Immigration Department (ImmD) expects outbound passenger traffic at Huanggang Port to remain at its peak until the early hours of Sunday, as Halloween festivities draw large crowds of residents and visitors across the city.
On Friday (Oct. 30), the eve of Halloween, Deputy Director of Immigration (Control, Visa and Passport) Ching Wo-mok visited Huanggang Port and Shenzhen Bay Control Point to inspect frontline operations and learn how immigration officers were handling passenger and vehicular flows.
In a social media post, the ImmD said passenger arrival and departure halls at both control points had been operating smoothly during the late-night hours.
The department expects late-night outbound traffic at Huanggang Port to peak on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 31 and Nov. 1). It said immigration officers would remain at their posts and reminded travellers to avoid busy periods as far as possible if they wished to complete immigration clearance more quickly.
The department also forecast that inbound passenger traffic would peak on Saturday morning, while the outbound travel peak would continue from Friday through the early hours of Sunday.
Huanggang Port has adopted a public-transport-first approach, with the authorities coordinating with public transport operators to increase service frequencies.
Meanwhile, the operating hours of Shenzhen Bay Control Point will be extended by two hours, with clearance services running until 2 am.
